We began this growing season offering produce from three Colorado sources. We take delivery of our produce and fruit from Albert’s Organics every Monday and Thursday. In season, we receive deliveries from Austin Family Farm and Arkansas Valley Organic Growers on Tuesday and Saturday. We have expanded our sources to include “extreme local food”. ¬†Growers in Teller-Park counties include Better Health Farm, Sunflower Gardens, Dancin’ Feet Farm, Fossil Farms and Wise Acres.

In our continued effort to understand the cost of organic produce, we determined the cost of a virtual cart suitable for 1-2 people for a week. Contents of the cart: a couple of apples, one avocado, a clamshell of blueberries, two pounds of cabbage, one pound bag of carrots, one head of garlic, a small piece of ginger root, one bag of Lacinato kale, one lemon, one bag of greenleaf lettuce, a clamshell of white mushrooms, a pound of onions, one clamshell of sweet peppers, two pounds of Colorado-grown russet potatoes, one pint of cherry grape tomatoes, and one pound of yams. The cost of $31.72 fits nicely into the USDA range of average cost of food at home for two, $110.90-$138.10 per week.
